"Out of Hibernation 2009"

Mike and me, and our friends Nick and Time headed down to P'Town nominally for the "Out of Hibernation" event, run by several New England bear groups, but more just to get away, inspired by the fact that Nick was headed down for OOH....So Mike and I booked a room at the Brass Key (great place, but can only afford it off-season)....

Friday 3/13/09

Since Mike had a late afternoon meeting, Nick met me at my place, and Tim kindly picked me up at my place, and we headed down to P'Town about noon. After a stop for gas and at Target for socks and candy.... we were down in sunny ptown in about 2 hours. We had lunch at the Post Office Cafe (which, frankly, i have to say i have never had a GOOD meal at -- but there were not a lot of lunch options at the end of winter in ptown). We wandered around a bit, had Nick, Tim and I had some wine and cheese at the Brass Key, and did some Trivial Persuit questions, to the amusement of the very quiet only other person there. We then retired to our respective hotels for naps. Mike came down about 8pm, and we headed out to dinner with the boys at Bayside Betsy's -- again, not a favorite, but little choice....I had swordfish which was dry...We did have a pretty good time hanging out though.

After dinner we headed to Nick and Tim's room and hung out and drank and listened to music, making a breif appearance at the Pajama Movie Night in the Crown & Anchor Cabaret.

Saturday 3/14/09

Mike and I had continental b'fast at the Brass Key, then met Nick and Tim to wander-shop up and down Commercial Street. Everyone picked up something, exceptme -- alas late winter sales are good unless everything good's been picked over, which was the case here. Mike kept telling everyone we met me "bought the world" (he had bought a glass globe paperweight.) Of course ad you do in P'town, we kept running into various people we knew up and down Commercial street. Nick and Tim got lunch at Farlands to take back to thier room as Mike and I sat on the porch and watched the scene on Bradford Street:

Mike and I drove up to the "new" Stop & Shop (formerly Grand Union - same store, difference logo, but a little better selection) and bought a mess of cheese, salami, grape leaves, grapes and a baguette. We took all this back to the Brass Key and has an impropteau picnic in the lobby. It was tasy and made for dinner on Sunday night as well. Saturday night we had dinner at the always-good Central House, Mike and I having talked about the Lobster Mac 'n' Cheese there all since well before we even left for P'town. It lived up to the hype for Tim, who had been teasing Mike about it not being on the menu all day. We then restocked the booze and headed up to Tim and Nick's room for more drinking and socialising. We then got ready for the "Briefs and Boxers" dance at Paramount (handily downstairs in the Crown complex - but unfortunately downstairs and through the courtyard - in mid 30-degree weather.) It was a fun mix of bears, cubs, and slightly confused twinks. I'd never been in Paramount before, and it's a quite nice space, basically a big box with flashy lights, no dance floor to speak of, everyone just kinda dances in the middle and people stand around the perimeter watching and cruising. It was a fun time, and the DJ was pretty good. Lots of 80's remixes. But as several people noted the club "smelled like ass" all night which wasn't the most pleasant thing.

Sunday 3/15

Mike and I got b'fast at the Brass key and checked out. We wandered through the West End, taking to the Pilgrim First Landing Park, to watch people clamming, then wandered back throught town. We did a final lap of Commercial Street, then headed out of town, to the usual sadness at having to leave that it's around where we pass the Truro dune shacks and Pigrim Lake. We stopped in Hyannis and at lunch at the excellent Wianno Grille, hidden away in a shopping plaza who's other highlight is Staples and Ocean State Job Lot. We had thier excellent showder (2nd only to Spanky's) and lunch salads -- both excellent. Mine was stip steak, and mike's seared bay scallops. Both just excellent. We got back to Boston about 3:30, and settled back in. We finished the weekend snacking on the leftover cheese and salami from Saturday while watching some Tivo. A most excellent, very relazing and fun weekend!
